October 3 - 9, 2021 is Public Power Week!

On September 20, 2021, Mayor Rawlings announced a proclamation recognizing October 3rd – 9th as Public Power Week.   During this week, public power utilities across the country celebrate the workers who keep their communities functioning and their residents comfortable on a daily basis.

The City of Augusta wants to show our appreciation for the employees in our Electric Division. Our Electric Production workers operate the City Power Plant and also do repair and welding work in the mechanic shop. Our Electric Distribution workers maintain the overhead and underground power lines in our communities as well as the substations, poles, and transformers.

These employees do work that is often both physical and mentally demanding, sometimes in difficult weather conditions and outside of typical work week hours.  In cases of emergency, such as the severe cold spell earlier this year in February, our Electric Division Workers are on call ready to get the power system up and running again as quickly as possible.
