FAQs - Wastewater
How do I apply for a new sewer tap?
As a matter of policy, the city does not create sewer taps. The property owner will need to contract with a licensed plumber for this service. The licensed plumber will need to obtain any necessary permits at the Community Development office located at Augusta City Hall, 113 E. 6th (316) 775-4505 prior to creating the sewer tap.
Can I flush this?
Where does our sewage go?
After you flush, your sewage travels through a variety of pipes and lift stations down to the wastewater treatment plant located south of Augusta on HWY 77. The sewage is treated to clean the water, remove sludge for land fertilizer application, and remove solid debris for disposal at the landfill. After disinfection, the clean water is released to the Walnut River.
Fun Fact: Much of the flow in many rivers today is wastewater runoff from an upstream treatment plant. The water released from the treatment plant is actually cleaner than the water in the river in which it is discharged.
